Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between PT and Cancer PT?
Traditional physical therapy focuses on muscles, joints, and movement after injury or surgery. Cancer PT is specialized. It accounts for cancer treatments like surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation—and their lasting effects. This includes scar tissue, radiation-induced tissue changes, nerve changes, fatigue, joint pain, and risk of lymphedema. Cancer PT is designed specifically to support safe recovery during and long after cancer treatment, not just rehab a single body part.
What is BCRL?
BCRL (Breast Cancer–Related Lymphedema) is swelling that can develop after breast cancer treatment when the lymphatic system is affected. It may feel like heaviness or tightness in the arm, breast, or chest. With early awareness and care, it’s often very manageable.
Do you accept insurance?
At this time, services are self-pay and not billed through insurance. This allows for longer visits, personalized care, and education that often isn’t covered by insurance—but makes a meaningful difference in recovery and quality of life.
What are the early signs of lymphedema?
Early signs of lymphedema can be subtle. You may notice a feeling of heaviness, tightness, or fullness; mild swelling that comes and goes; skin feeling firmer; or jewelry, sleeves, or bras fitting differently on one side. You may also notice reduced mobility and redness. Catching these changes early makes a big difference.
Do I need a referral to schedule an appointment?
No, you don’t need a referral to schedule an appointment. You’re welcome to reach out directly. If you have one, we’re happy to coordinate with your care team, but it’s not required to get started.
What happens during an evaluation?
During an evaluation, we take time to understand your full story, including your treatment history, current symptoms, goals, and concerns. We assess posture, movement, shoulder function, scar and tissue mobility, and lymphedema risk. You’ll leave with clear answers, education, and a personalized plan to support your recovery.
Do you offer virtual appointments?
Yes! Virtual appointments are available for both survivors and practitioners. We offer remote education, movement guidance, and clinical consultation for individuals, as well as coaching and case-based support for healthcare and fitness professionals, no matter where you’re located.
